The process may seem technical at first, but by following the correct steps, you can complete the entire setup within just a few minutes.

What Should You Check Before Installation?

Before you begin, make sure that:

  • Your device supports eSIM technology.
  • Your device is not locked to a mobile carrier.
  • You have a stable internet connection.
  • Your QR code or other installation details are ready.
  • Your device’s operating system is up to date.

The names of the sections in your device settings may vary depending on the phone model and operating system version.

How to Install an eSIM on an iPhone

iPhone users can install an eSIM by following these steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Cellular or Mobile Data.
  3. Tap Add eSIM.
  4. Select Use QR Code.
  5. Scan the QR code provided.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

If the QR code is displayed on the same phone, compatible iPhone models may allow you to open and recognize it from your photo library. Alternatively, you can enter the installation details manually.

After installation, you can label the eSIM line as Travel or Wayro. This will help you easily distinguish your travel eSIM from your primary line.

How to Install an eSIM on an Android Device

The installation steps on Android devices may vary depending on the manufacturer and model. The general process is as follows:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Connections, Network & Internet, or SIM Manager.
  3. Select Add eSIM, Add Mobile Plan, or Download a SIM Instead.
  4. Choose the option to install the eSIM using a QR code.
  5. Scan the QR code provided.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

On Samsung devices, this feature is usually available under:

Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM

How to Activate Your eSIM

Once the installation is complete, you need to set the eSIM as your mobile data line:

  1. Open your phone’s mobile network settings.
  2. Select the eSIM you installed.
  3. Activate the line.
  4. Set it as the preferred line for mobile data.
  5. Enable Data Roaming if required by your plan.

To ensure that mobile data is used through the correct line while traveling, make sure Data Roaming is enabled for your eSIM and disabled for your primary SIM card. This can help prevent unexpected roaming charges.

When Should You Install Your eSIM?

It is best to install your eSIM before your trip while you have access to a stable Wi-Fi connection. The right time to activate it, however, depends on the terms of your chosen plan.

Some plans become valid when the eSIM first connects to a supported network. For others, the validity period may begin on the date of purchase or installation. For this reason, it is important to check the activation rules before beginning the process.

What Should You Do If Your eSIM Is Not Working?

If you cannot connect to the internet after installation:

  • Check that the eSIM line is active.
  • Select the eSIM as the preferred line for mobile data.
  • Enable Data Roaming.
  • Turn Airplane Mode on and then off again.
  • Restart your device.
  • Set network selection to automatic.
  • If required, make sure the APN details have been entered correctly.

If the issue continues, do not delete the eSIM profile immediately. Some profiles cannot be reinstalled using the same QR code. In this case, it is best to contact your provider’s support team first.

A Few Steps for a More Convenient Journey

Although the eSIM installation process may vary slightly depending on the device, the main steps remain the same: add the plan to your device, activate the line, and select it for mobile data.

Now you know how to install an eSIM. Simply follow the steps for your device and review your plan’s activation terms in advance.
